The flowering stage starts after the lights are switched to 12 hours on a day signalling to the plant it is nearing the end of its yearly (in nature) life cycle and the plants produce there flowers to ensure there species survive. the female plants (top left) produce bud's for defence and to try and reproduce the male plants (top right) produce pollen sack's to try and pollinate the females to make them produce seeds. This stage lasts from 7-18 weeks depending on the strain.

You will want to pull out males as soon as they are identified as pollinated females are less potent and produce less buds because most of there energy goes into making seeds.

There is a sub stage called pre-flowering that starts when plants are switched onto a 12/12 light schedule. This stage lasts for around 2 weeks and during this stage they continue growing vegetatively and when they show the fist signs of flouring this stage is over.

Flouring nutes (Rich in phosphorus and potassium) should be given in this stage and the grower should take care in making sure the plants get 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness per day. Note that plants grown from seed change to asymmetrical growth pattens in this stage. It is important to be pashant because 20% of bud growth is done in the last 2 weeks of flouring! and the THC develops faster in the last weeks becoming more potent.
